Respect

Respect

By Jason 'Jay Tilla' McCallop

You have to understand that not every white man is evil. Not every white man is out for your destruction or your demise. However, racism as we all know still exists, and there is still an abundance of fear that resides in White America's heart towards you. You need to tap into that fear. Realize what it is that scares them. Understand your true self and the power that resides within you. Rip off that veil that has been placed over your eyes since your grandfather's, grandfather's grandfather worked the fields.

We are wasting our strengths and our talents. Unfortunately when a strong black man ascends to greatness it seems to be another black man to be the first to tear him down. It is not a new thing for black on black violence and it will not end today either. But each of us who are still taking breaths of this sweet air on Earth still have the ability to stop one if not more acts of self-violence.

From the history of Africa, it was our own people that sold us into bondage for gold and riches. And you see even today we still sell ourselves out for riches and fame. We are consumed by bright jewelry and fancy cars because we have never had these things and we feel that we have finally 'made it' now that we have these material things. Does it make us more of a man now that we have these things? Do these things now give us that power and respect that we have been striving for our whole lives to achieve?

But where does our power lie? If we only achieve power once we have become monetarily rich then what good is that power? How does that power work? I tell you today that your power is in you now. Your power is even stronger before your minds are corrupted by the jewelry and cars and clothes. Once you have achieved those material things you have sold yourself to White America. You have lost all power. You have now become a product. Before you know it they will put you on the shelf and sell you to the highest bidder.

As a race we have yet to achieve our full potential. We have squandered plenty of opportunities and have almost run out of options. We are content with sitting on our hands until a sectarian action is committed and then we scream and throw a fit as if we have been totally wronged. I admit that it is wrong to hate a man for his skin color. It is indeed wrong to hate a man regardless. But when there is a blatant act of violence on one of your brothers because of his dark skin then it does boil ones blood. But we have to understand that in order for these things to cease to exist, in order for us to gain that respect that we crave....we have to respect ourselves initially.
